No. The Embodied Imagination method applies to any intense experience. This could be a dream, a loss, a vision, a moment of overwhelming beauty or grief. Psychedelic integration is the primary focus of this course, but the method is equally applicable to anyone who has had an experience they know was significant but have not yet been able to fully integrate.

Yes. The course is specifically designed to be valuable for therapists, coaches, physicians, and caregivers who want to understand and apply the DREAM Protocol with clients. Robert Bosnak draws on five decades of clinical practice and current research collaboration to ground the method in both practice and neuroscience.
The DREAM Protocol is a structured five-step method developed by Robert Bosnak and professor of oncology Anthony Back, MD for facilitating the integration of profound experiences. DREAM stands for Drop In, Recount, Enter, Amplify, and Merge. It is currently being tested in IRB-approved research at Washington University in Seattle in the context of psilocybin-assisted therapy with oncology patients.
Most integration approaches work primarily through narrative and cognitive reflection. Embodied Imagination works directly with the body's encoded intelligence, re-entering the original experience as a sensory state rather than a memory. This activates interoceptive centers in the brain in ways that narrative approaches cannot reach, and clinical evidence suggests that even brief, precise somatic attention can produce lasting change.
When we move beyond the thinking mind, we enter a deeper layer of intelligence that lives in the body and in image. Robert Bosnak calls this Embodied Intelligence, a way of knowing that the brain alone cannot access. It draws on sensation, presence, and the felt quality of experience to create real and lasting change. This approach has profound implications for healing, creativity, and how we engage with the unconscious. You can explore this further in
What is Embodied Intelligence? and
Going Out of Your Mind With Me. This course teaches Embodied Imagination as a psychological method for integrating intense experiences. It does not advocate for, facilitate, or encourage the use of any controlled substance. Robert Bosnak's work is grounded in decades of clinical practice and ongoing university-based research. All psychedelic references are educational and clinical in nature.

A new paper in Frontiers in Psychiatry by Anthony Back and Robert Bosnak introduces the DREAM protocol, a structured method for helping cancer patients integrate psilocybin therapy experiences. Rather than translating psychedelic sessions into verbal narratives, DREAM guides patients back into the bodily and imaginal sensations of their trip, inviting them to inhabit feelings, and even the perspectives of figures or presences they encountered, to build a lasting, revisitable touchstone. Rooted in Bosnak's Embodied Imagination, the approach is still experimental: two pilot studies are underway to test its feasibility, safety, and therapeutic value.
