Craig Chalquist: depth psychologist, philosopher and storyteller

Craig Chalquist, Ph.D., Ph.D., is a depth psychologist, philosopher and storyteller whose work connects the inner life of the psyche with the places, stories and systems we live in. He directs the Consciousness, Psychology, and Transformation program at National University. Before that, he chaired the East-West Psychology program at the California Institute of Integral Studies and held several leadership roles at Pacifica Graduate Institute, including Associate Provost.

Trained in Family Systems Therapy, he has worked as a psychotherapist with individuals and families, including men struggling with violence. He also led the team that created one of the first ecotherapy certificate programs, at John F. Kennedy University, and has presented at Jungian institutes and societies across the United States.

His work is wide-ranging. He is known for developing terrapsychology, an approach that explores how places shape our moods, dreams and sense of self, and for his work on ecopsychology, the power of stories to drive cultural change, and what he calls enchantivism: change that grows out of wonder, imagination and care rather than force. He has written around twenty books, and founded the publisher World Soul Books.
