Thomas Moore

Thomas Moore

Thomas Moore began his work life at an early age, leaving home to study for the Catholic priesthood and becoming a monk. After thirteen intense years he left that life and eventually received a Ph.D. in religious studies from Syracuse University, where he was introduced to the work of C. G. Jung and James Hillman. He became devoted to Jung, while deciding not to become a Jungian, and was a close friend of Hillman. He taught at universities for several years and then began doing psychotherapy and finally wrote his most well-known book, the New York Times number one bestseller, Care of the Soul. Since then he has written thirty more books, the most recent Soul Therapy and The Eloquence of Silence.

He often lectures at hospitals, bookstores, spiritual centers and Jung societies around the world. Every day he plays Bach, Brahms and Debussy on his 127 year-old Steinway. His family members, his wife Joan Hanley, his daughter Siobhán (Ajeet) and Abraham Bendheim are all artists and
colleagues.
