When I write about the ground I am referring to the felt-sense of support and stability that lies beneath the body. Our deepest ground is underground. There are different levels to this sense of being grounded. On one level – the most obvious one – we feel rooted in and connected to the earth. Another level, less frequented, is archetypal. Here we may be pulled down into an underground realm on a mythic journey.
Humans hold within their hands the ability to insure a flourishing future for all life on Earth. Essential to accomplishing this task is the need to create and implement new technologies and economic systems both locally and globally. However, to achieve this task with minimal shadow effects, we need a transformation of consciousness that enables us to live in true balance with the natural world.
Our soul’s creative impulse originates in a desire to imitate/participate in the original act of creation—that of a God or Gods creating the cosmos. Creativity is as well an attitude of seeking wholeness, not completeness. Our creative life is risky business; but it is also immensely rewarding.
I hear you asking, “A Jung Platform course on the Tarot? Isn’t that fortune telling? What next, tea leaves?” My only response: perhaps!
Among the many orthodox and heterodox psychological concepts that Jung explored, divination and its companion, synchronicity, are part of the Jungian canon. Rather than being surprised at this, it is helpful to see Jung’s wide-ranging interests, including not only divination but also alchemy, flying saucers, and discussions of religion, soul, and spirit, as a testimony to the power of Analytical Psychology as a discipline as well as a therapeutic method.
Singing is a deeply human activity. It is part of every human culture around the world and throughout time. Our kin have used singing to do so many things.Only in the very recent past have so many people stopped singing. We have become consumers of song instead of makers of it. Something essential is missing. Our voices and souls are starving for song.At any given moment, a song could arise and be sung out loud – imperfectly and with great joy. So I ask you now, friend – why not sing?
Living within us are a myriad of Selves, each with their own interests, thoughts, feelings, opinions, and energies. These Selves or aspects of our consciousness, greatly influence our lives and the choices we make day-to-day. Voice Dialogue, which is based on the Psychology of Selves and the Aware Ego Process, is a technique for giving voice to each of the Selves.’ How do we honor each Self for the unique value it brings?
‘We identify with our voices and assume they reflect our carefully constructed persona. When they don’t, we are often left feeling vulnerable, embarrassed, and disoriented. Our voices are the primary bridge between our internal landscape and the outside world. Long before we learn to speak, we send signals out to the world through our voices. The response that we receive begins forming our fundamental assumptions about who we are and how the world around us works.’ Can shifts made in our voice impact the rest of our life?
There is a pandemic. People are scared to be in each other’s presence. Death tolls are rising everywhere. A search for the medicine is taking on ever greater importance. Rage and upheaval abound. War and displacement are deforming the world.
As millions of Baby Boomers choose not to merely grow old but to grow whole, to intentionally step across a threshold and become an Elder, we discover that aging can be a spiritual path. Its foundation is described in every spiritual tradition as ego transcendence, a shift in identity from a separate sense of self to a universal sense of inter-connectedness. Read More.
Many people have asked me over the years why I always keep returning to alchemy. What is it about alchemy that fascinates me so much that I have been studying it for 50 years now? Whenever I am faced with life’s unsolvable problems I go to alchemy, in the way Freud said somewhere that he would always return to dreams when in a conundrum.
